WE DON’T BELIEVE CHILDREN SHOULD FIT INTO THE MOLD OF SCHOOL – WE BELIEVE SCHOOL SHOULD BE MOLDED BY CHILDREN.
Learning at Juniper is hands-on and inquiry-based giving children the support, resources and time to tinker, create, innovate, problem solve and develop their passions.
Juniper Micro School recognizes that in order to tackle the big issues of 2030 and beyond, students also need creativity, critical thinking, analytical and problem solving skills.
Afternoons are dedicated to inquiry-based learning. All students spend long blocks of time in our Maker Space. Using annual themes and essential questions, teachers carefully design interdisciplinary units that focus on STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) and the social sciences.
This long block of time allows students and teachers to become deeply engaged in their work. In addition to mastering grade level content during a dedicated math block, students are able to continue to hone their math skills in exciting real world applications during inquiry block.
Empowered by the introduction of different content, skills and resources, students spend a significant portion of their inquiry block working on “passion projects.”
These highly engaging and motivating projects allow students to put their research, academic, collaboration, and entrepreneurial skills to real life application. Sample projects might include recording a school podcast, writing an original music composition on the iPad, composting on campus, raising chickens or designing and constructing new playground equipment.
Teachers serve as facilitators by sparking the imagination of their students and giving kids the tools to meet their individual goals.
